More
wiring hell! After the last trip I acquired yet another wiring loom
that was yet again butchered. No more ordering looms from people I've
never met on the internet. I arranged to see someone in person (thanks
Kev) to strip a loom myself from a scrap Panda 4x4. Until then though,
more cosmetic work and some electrics work but mainly fitting the
new seats I bought on eBay.
The seats were from a Daihatsu Sportrak and came complete with subframes
with seatbelt mounts. The subframes needed modifying as they made
the seat much too high when first placed on the floor in the car to
see what they looked like. They were cut down drastically using an
angle grinder and the seatbelt fixings removed. Then it was just a
case of carefully marking where all the new bolt holes were going
to be and drilling them out. I think these seats look much better
in the car than the old bucket seats did and they are more comfortable.
Win.
The next couple of jobs I tackled were the fitting of a cigarette
lighter into the centre console and making two screen vent covers.
Then I did some work moving the position of the washer bottle in the
engine bay as it fouled the bonnet slightly and fitting the vehicle
VIN plate.
Next up was cutting the hole in the bodywork for the other indicator
side repeater. After I'd done this I realised that I'd somehow lost
the other side indicator. This meant I'd have to source another pair
the same or very similar but for now there was nothing else I could
do with the indicators.
So the last job was to cut some aluminium chequer plate to make wing
top covers, as can be seen in the last two pictures. Since the last
time I worked on the car I'd bought an 8x4 sheet of aluminium plate
for all the body mods I wanted to do but this was as far as I got
this time. |
